Just back to Ottawa after 2+ weeks out west. It's quiet and relaxing. Here's some random bits and bytes in the trip:
  • TSX's suspension is actually on the soft side, you can feel it on the freeway. Otherwise, it is a nice car to sit in.
  • SF's dimsum not as nice as in Vancouver.
  • Watch the whole "20/30 dictionary" in a long match fashion, and understand why it's a web drama that will not be show on TV (like Feel 100%)
  • It's always good to spend time with family.
  • Mom's constantly providing soups of various kinds is a good thing.
  • Figured out how much (or little) the rest of the family like crab, and get itchy after having a whole big one by myself. (Yes, I'm a bit allergic to it...)
  • My dad can cook alright Turkey. But young Turkey is soft and juicy for some reason. (wierd?)
  • People in the states are serious about shopping at the morning after Thanksgiving. They _will_ line up 4 in the morning.
  • I80 and Business80 is not the same freeway, even through they join up at the end.
  • You can actually wait for over an hour in Home depot trying to get a piece of wood cut, and still can't get it done. I don't know if this is a US and A thing.
  • Snow in the beginning of the season hurts your butt when you fell on it.....
  • San Francisco, even for its leak of snow, has better snowboarding shops that carry more brands.... but in a higher price (Yes, it is a US of A thing)
  • There is actually a small Chinese mall in Richmond, CA. It is mostly a big T&T like supermarket and eating places. But Pacific Mall and alike in Toronto still kick major ass.
  • It's always good to sleep a lot, and eat 5 times a day.
  • saw j in Vancouver, things as usual.
  • Dennis need a break from work and overwork, as usual. (It's always like that each time I stop by...) He should try to make baby. hehehe.
  • Take the rental Liberty for a spin in the mud with Dennis, proved it has decent off-road capacity, but still lack some real off-road-go-anywhere function. It earns the "Dennis approved" seal, none the less.

Soldiers are people as well, it does not matter what gender they are. This is particularly true in a country struggle for its survival for decades. Male and Female, all work to defend their country.

It's strong, but yet feminine.

Finally setup my Chinese input method with IIIMF-xcin on my laptop. So, now I can learn how to type Chines.... right (not! If you know me. haha).

It's rather easy to setup with only the input method without changing the locale:
1. mkdir ~/.xinput.d
2. ln -s /etc/X11/xinit/xinput.d/iiimf ~/.xinput.d/default
3. Add IM switcher applet in Gnome.
4. Enjoy (ctrl-space = on/off, ctrl-shift = method).

Just install FC3 religiously on my laptop after it released this week. The istallation itself goes pretty smooth, except the media test failed for some reasons (but the CDs are not corrupted, or so it seems).

It mostly small improvements over FC2. The Wi-fi network setup works (with firmware installed at /lib/firmware), but the card setup is still a bit wierd since it's not detected until reboot.

There are a couple of problems:
- For some strange reason, I have a problem that the sound card is not initialized when GNOME starts. It turns out the mixer is muted, and I need to restore it from rc.local.
- APM is not working somehow, so I can't suspend the laptop... It turns out FC is using ACPI now, but I have some problem using ACPI to suspend the laptop..... need more investigation.
- Windows list and Window Switcher failed and didn't work sometimes.... The problem disappears after a while.....

p.s. still trying to setup with many popular RPM repositories. Setup with FreshRPM, ATrpms, Dries, NewRPM, and DAG repositories

Kids these days just too spoiled. They're living in a material-rich world, even just compared to a generation of kids before them. I don't remember my dad buy me a computer when I was a kid; he got the toy for himself and I just looking over his shoulder saying "please, please".

Heh, the good old days. I still remembered that one summer when I came back home with mom and my brother after spending the summer visiting relatives in Canada and the US. A strange looking boxes with TV sitting in the living room. It's called a "computer". (See here, a OSI C8P DF)

Being a kid, of course I told my friends in school about it. And of course, they don't belived me. It's way back then (the early 80's) when a computer is a gadget only live in anime and TV shows. But there is one sitting in our living room, how strange....

Anyway, kids these days must be watching too much Court drama (Ally McBeal maybe??) on TV.

Yeah... it's a bug. The URL screwed up since I did a <a href="xml-rss2.php"> in the menu, which is relative and the wrong url prefix is appended when accessing it from other categories....
