2005/08/25: Introducing Admun II
If you're able to see this post, that's mean you're served by my new server (AMD Athlon 64 3000+, MSI RS480M2-IL m/b, 1GB dual channel DDR RAM, 1x20GB ATA, 2x10GB SATA running s/w RAID-5)
Performance (in term of processing time) improved quite a bit: blog from ~0.9 sec to ~0.3 sec, My NUDN from ~0.6 sec to ~0.2 sec.
I'm still flushing out problem as it goes, and yet to move TV capturing, setup MLDonkey/Torrentflux and etc to the new server.

2005/08/24: Aftermath
A bad storm hitted Toronto and Southern Ontario last Friday and cause quite some damage.
I was struck in the car dodging the havey rain and hails for 15 minutes. The news reported we got over 10cm in one hour. A lot of cars and buildings are flooded. The traffic through out GTA is halted. It took me over an hour to go from Pacific mall to my Aunt place near York Mills and Leslie. cellphone is down, luckily SMS still works.

2005/08/24: Google Talks, Skype Listens
Hum, looks like Google finally make their debut on the IM/VoIP arena. The client looks really lean (900k) and support Linux/MaxOS X as well. Now Skype has more competition.

2005/08/20: The Strange Me, Admun Style
Picked by Ana, I got to show the wierdo side of me. BaWaHaHaHa.
- No shower when camping (car/camoe), to show the "man" side of me
- Use Razor
- Eat the peice of lamon come on the glass of drinks
- Eat the skin of kiwi
- Always arrived early when meeting someone
Here's I randomly pick someone from the HKBlogger map.
- Epitaph
- 畸同學的剪貼簿
- 星雲記事
- Viclssitude3
- dreamaholic
How to play (steal from Sidekick, shamelessly):
Game rule
1.被貼後,請寫5項個人怪癖
2.然後請再轉貼5個人

2005/08/15: Touched...
I dropped by Ana's blog to read on the latest and saw this in her post (BTW, nice writing!):

She's using the TechnoratiTags plugin that I improved and supported for Nucleus. The plugin was done by a wp user playing around with Nucleus. Ana mades a very good use of it and add the Technorati "Q" icon.
As a s/w developer myself, I got most satified when I saw my creation adapted and at work out there and users are happy. I even more appreciate to see the new feature I put into the plugin enpowers user to make their application even better! I'm so happy.
Working on a telecom system didn't really give me that appreication of my creation, at least not at the same level. I can say someone make a call from their cellphone somewhere in the North America because the 6000ish lines code I wrote (out of many million lines of code...), definitely not as exiciting as seeing this tiny icon and link.
Ana, you make my day!

2005/08/14: Disappear from the Ether.....
Heard from 聞.見.思.錄 that cuiyao's blog disappearred, again.....
栗子俱樂部/Dear Life is one of the first HK blogs I read after I stumbles onto sidekick's blog. I enjoy reading her blog because she's writing about herself and her story is no less interesting than many fictions. But this is a story of someone with love, feeling, hate, and a life.
No doubt another disappointment since 港燦 left thebuilding blogsphere.
I wish her well, and a comeback if she desired.

2005/08/10: Blogging Rules
It's interesting to see how old idea applies to new situation.
I was always thinking from the more "tactical" point of view when come to writing my blog.
1) Never talk about work and things related to my trade. There are enough ppl get fired for blogging about their work..... I'm not plannning to be one of them.
2) When linking to other post/site, at least try to put in a bit opinion. It's not blogging when you just put a link in your post. It's called cut and paste, or simply linking.
3) Opinion, opinion, and opinion. Did I say opinion. It's a platform to voice your idea, feeling, opinion, and share. I need to get use to present my own thought. It's not like writing a program that ppl can draw conclusion from the code.

2005/08/08: Hong Kong, Hong Kong, From the Orbit
Yes, it's old news and everyone else has found it.
I used to live in Mongkok, near Mongkok market and Tai Kok Tsui. Now the old typhoon shelter is all built up.

I guess, I will use this map for now.

2005/08/05: mva Reinstalls with FC4
I always reinstall my linux setup from time to time, sometimes things just get too messy after you play around with new rpms and you know what to do.
I've been playing around with various repositories such as AtRPMS, FreshRPM, DAG, Dries and Livna. It's always a tricky business to pick the right repos to use in FC, because some of them does not mixed well. FC Extras seem to be compatiable to the rest. The most problem I found is Livna vs DAG/Dries/FreshRPM (soon RPMforge) vs AtRPMS. I didn't use other repos like Jpackage, Nrpm, and such since I do not need those rpms usually.
After some playing around, I think FC Extra + RPMforge provides the most benefit to me. I'm kind of scare of AtRPMS as it replaced a lot of libraries.
After that, I reinstall with a fresh copy and start using the repos for application. I just hate patchy installation.
