2007/04/22: Quality of Man
I was thinking the other day, does in general success is determined by the quality of man?
This quote from movie First Option, pop in mind:

However, Chinese used to say you need to use proper tool, if you want to do a good job (工欲善其事,必先利其器)
From own experience, I feel that the equipment play a big part. I observed my snowboarding as an example that I ride better with Burton SW, than GNU CHB. As the GNU getting old and flat (vs snappy), my turns become less lively. And I saw so many cases of bad equipment hampering student progress. Another example is my badminton racket, with the Ti-7 I can hit it to the back of the court (when I swing properly)
I guess there is certain truth in it.

2007/04/20: My Thinkpad T60 #1
The T60 has arrived for 2 weeks now and I finally able to get the Vista repartitioned to free up space to install Fedora Core.
The Vista disk shrink function sucks because it cannot deal with system files and page files that scattered around the disk.
At the end I use gpartd in ubuntu 7.04 liveCD and get the job done.
I will write more about the laptop later.

The killer of VT sent in some video and stuff to NBC, and people are thinking should it be open up for all to see.
I don't know this is really the best way to handle... I am not disagree with what Dave said, but I am concerned we are doing exactly what the killer want us to do; view and publicize it (even worst, put it on YouTube).
It's the knowing that the act will indirectly "glorify" in some way that we should not encourage. We are granting to this guy a honor (in a bad way) when we open these contents up for all to see. What you would think when you know these video will be viewed on the net and TV after you die? (getting excited? I am wondering maybe that how they feel?)
I hope NBC just turns it over to Authority, have it lock up for years before re-open it in public domain. Of course, meanwhile it can be accessed by those have a good reason to (i.e. academic), but not to those "just to see what the hype about" type.
How do we balance between public interest (to know the truth), and encouraging such evil act?

Bittorrent is really fast when the source is in demand..... ~700MB CD in 2 hours.
Going to try it out on my new Thinkpad T60 to see if I can shrink Vista on the harddisk. Some reported that gpartd can get it done.
Vista is really sucks in the sense that all the system files and page files scatter all over the place, so user often can't shrink the partition with the build-in partition shrink function (I can only squeeze 20GB out of a 60+GB partition)

2007/04/17: 我都可以是一隻小小鳥, 所以我Twitter

2007/04/02: Change # 1, I am a Happy Teksavvy Customer Now
Did I mentioned at the beginning of the year 2007 will be a year of changes?
The 1st change happened just over the weekend, I switch ISP from Bell Sympatico HSE to Teksavvy.
They have a discount rate for my company and I heard only good things about them, so I switched.
Indeed, switchover is smooth, apart from some setup issue on my part on out-going email. They even have NNTP server so I can read some local newsgroups on Thunderbird, just like the good old days.
