When I first start my blog back in 2003, two of the final candidates were NucleusCMS and Wordpress. At the time, Wordpress is still pre-1.0 and by looking at their feature list I decided NucleusCMS is more fun to play with.

Not that this is important...

Later, I re-visited my previous decision when Wordpress rapidly advances and gains popularity while Movable Type pisses off its users and caused a mass exodus. At that time, Wordpress has grow into something interesting as there is a huge community surrounding it. But I decided to stay with NucleusCMS because:
- NucleusCMS seem has better performance as my own benchmark shows.
- There are already a big developer community when compare to NucleusCMS, . It's crowded, IMHO. In NucleusCMS, I can make contributions on many fronts.
- I do not like certain aspect of how the project is being run.
- I like the skin/template system in NucleusCMS over theme in Wordpress. My main reason is: It is wrong to see PHP code in your theme.

I guess my instinct was not just from my bias over NucleusCMS, after all. PHP code in theme/skin/template is a security risk...

Yes, a skin can included links that is potentially harmful. But there is no code actually executed on my server, and browser has protection to malicious code if there is any XSS present. The same cannot be said for Wordpress theme as the example show.

In addition, I do not think a certified "marketplace" for theme is the answer to theme policing. A properly designed theme system is needed.

I was reading Mark Evans talking about why del.icio.us can be the next Google.

I have been using del.icio.us indirectly for a while now, mostly as a bookmarks service. I have NucleusCMS blogroll deposits all my links to it to facilitate sharing.

I agreed that del.icio.us indeed has great potential, but it need to come out of coma to be the next great Internet icon.

A re-ramp, if it happens, I would like to see a few things happened.
- a more exciting API to interact w/ the service, maybe with OpenSocial support.
- a "Do you mean this?" function, which suggest to user better tag to use. I believed one of the problems with tags is that there is hard to have the same tag semantic across the board to improve the accurate of a tag.
- a tag/link search on-line or via API.
- a mini-feed feature like in Facebook kinda already done by "your network".

So, Gphone is all the talks on the net right now, but before that happened maybe I will do some shopping first. I am in a shopping mood recently, after I bought a Mac mini (more to that when I get my hands on it). Yes, you are right. Guy does shop too. hehehe.

There are few new products coming out that caught my eyes and spark some interests.
1 - Nokia N810
2 - HTC touch
3 - FIC Neo1973

The N810 has great potential; A Internet tablet with 4.13" display, 802.11b/g WIFI, bluetooth, USB2.0, GPS, webcam, and slide-out keyboard. It is primarily for use in anywhere with WIFI hotspot right now for the net and as mobile media device. It will be much better if it equipped with mobile WiMAX/LTE/UMB. Maybe it can be used to replace current 2G cellphone service with VoIP provided by a carrier.

HTC touch is a current generation Windows Mobile based phone, with WIFI. It's has all I wish for from my Moto Ming. But I think it should have GPS for its form-factor, and the size a bit big when compared to Ming.

Neo1973 is kind of big, but it runs Linux. If it has a 2.0MP camera in the finally version, I might get one.

Others on the radar: oqo 01/02 (too expensive), Sony (again too expensive) , iPhone/iPod Touch (not really (yet) a Apple fan), HTC Shift (nice, but too big as a phone)

Ideally, I wish my next phone has about the same form-factor as Moto Ming, EDGE, WIFI, build-in GPS, and hand-writing input (especially for Chinese).

We learned from history time after time that the best technology not always the winner. i.e. VHS VS beta, Windows VS OS/2

But this is about life and death, how people able to sleep at night when it seems that their own agenda is getting in front of the best interest of the people who risk their life?

I don't know who is the lier here, but more and more evident is mounting.

Dealing with those baddies around the world, our sons and daughters deserve the best.

A good piece explains why DRM won't work. Those people struck in the past should realize that. Period.

Unless users are denied the right to the material physically (refuse to sale me that Harry Potter movie) or the mean to access it (do not manufacture DVD players), someone will find a way to get those bits and bytes to the open.

This screenshot says it all, do you see TVB has porgramme like this? Maybe, but quality and frequency of this is few and far between.

Why I think RTHK has its value

This is just one of so many good quality shows RTHK did each year.

GigaOM is asking this question: Now if you could get 24 megabits per second for $50 a month, what would you do with it?

Games? I don't do that.

Youtube? I don't religiously tune in.

Skype/VoIP? maybe, assuming I got my number (plus maybe an extra number in Hong Kong) for free... and yeah I am cheap and don't want to pay for SkypeIn/Out or Vonage. I always think it should be included as part of the plan as analog/voice coverage onto digital/data..... But more importantly, I am a geek and like to setup my own SIP gateway for the service so I can learn how it works.

p2p like bittorrent/donkey? I do a bit of it right now, mostly for downloading Fedora via bittorrent. I will use it more if p2p TV/movie/music/etc getting legit, with a price tag around $15/month (of course, I won't complain if it's free).

I run my own web server at home for all my geeky projects and experiments, so for sure I want much more up-link bandwidth.

I think it would be nice if I have enough up-link bandwidth to do music and TV streaming from my server, so I can watch my home TV/recording or listen to my music collection from anywhere.

Actually, what I really want is Hyperconnectivity. cool I want to able to connect from wherever I am to the Internet, and to stuff at my home server.

up-link, more up-link bandwidth, please!

Pig reported on Twitter that we now have a shortcode to send update to from Canada.

It works, but I wonder if the local code cost me money. I have 100 free SMS from on my phone, a good way to use them is Tweeting.
