I talked to many friends in Hong Kong when I was there last X'mas, they all echo exactly the same concerns on raising kids in Hong Kong. They just don't think they have time to provide the right environment for kids. A friend's sister actually just moved back to Vancouver for the same reason.

If my memory served, only 1 out of 10+ friends returned from Canada have kids after they married. My other friends have somewhat higher number, but still rate much lower with my friends here in Ottawa. Most my friends here that married over 2 years have kids and actually all of them have 2.

I think it is true that Canada in general has better environment for rasing kids, most people have more time for family and such. But this does not mean it is easier to raise kid here, through.

Hum, looks like Google finally make their debut on the IM/VoIP arena. The client looks really lean (900k) and support Linux/MaxOS X as well. Now Skype has more competition.

Heard from 聞.見.思.錄 that cuiyao's blog disappearred, again..... sad

栗子俱樂部/Dear Life is one of the first HK blogs I read after I stumbles onto sidekick's blog. I enjoy reading her blog because she's writing about herself and her story is no less interesting than many fictions. But this is a story of someone with love, feeling, hate, and a life.

No doubt another disappointment since 港燦 left the building blogsphere.

I wish her well, and a comeback if she desired.

It's interesting to see how old idea applies to new situation.

I was always thinking from the more "tactical" point of view when come to writing my blog.

1) Never talk about work and things too close to it. There are enough ppl get fired for blogging about their work..... I'm not planning to be one of them.

2) When linking to other post/site, at least try to put in a bit opinion. It's not blogging when you just put a link in your post. It's called cut and paste, or simply linking.

3) Opinion, opinion, and opinion. Did I say opinion. It's a platform to voice your idea, feeling, opinion, and share. I need to get use to present my own thought. It's not like writing a program that people can draw conclusion from the code.

Yes, it's old news and everyone else has found it.

I used to live in Mongkok, near Mongkok market and Tai Kok Tsui. Now the old typhoon shelter is all built up.

I guess, I will use this map for now.

On cable TV here in North America, there is a show called Judge Judy, hosted by a retired family court judge turns TV show personality. She resolves family dispite cases on TV. It is common for people in the US of A to bring despite to court, they just seem to have a habit of suing whatever they like.....

Recently in Canada, some muslim community propose to setup a muslim tribunals to resolve family despite using Sharia law.

I have not give it much thought yet, but I'm not sure this is a good idea for our communities. My reason is that the tribunal is based on Muslim Sharia law, I'm worry it sets an incorrect precedence for more such ruling on family matters, which may create a chaos as many different values clash on the same issues. Also, I'm wondering what kind of power this tribunal has on people that is not muslim. In addition, some believed that this law marginalize women.

I have seen my first RSS Ad since late last year, and the number has grow steadily.

So far, most of the Ads I see are banners on the bottom of an item. But some of ad actually appears as an item. This concerns me a lot; As the number of such ad grow, the noise level going to increase to a point that I'll have to filter a lot of junks before I can see see something useful. Sure, someone is going to come up with filter and other technique to battle these, but just like spams on other media (ie email), it's going to be a uphill battle.

RSS is supposed to be a simple format for people to notify the world they got new contents, but it's no longer simple.

Saw the news awhile back about the first lady's speech, finally have a change to watch it.

A funny speech from the First desperate housewife lady, who used to be a librarian. She talks about how useful a chainsaw to the cowboy, and he who milk the male horse, and definition of a short walk (about 20 foot).

Whether you hate the man or not, you're going to like the humor in it and got to see the man from another angle.

The dot com was burst in 2000/2001, it was like the end of the world; (Ok, I exaggerated...) Big (and small) companies collapsed one after another, employees getting layoff left and right, the countries are at war, virus is killing people. To some, it's a nightmare.

During the past few years, the economy surrounding the net seem all dry up and will not return for a while. VC money is tight, if there are any. Companies are struggling to still alive and hang in for the storm to past. People is turning every rock trying to find jobs, or have to change career all together.

Now the market is turning around, things are getting better. Money is flowing in (and out of) the net again. Even it's not like back in 2000. People found jobs available.

Another economics cycle ended for yet a new one to start.

New technologies are developed in the past few years, but do we progress to another level? or merely just another incarnation of the same old with new wrapping.

[update]
Second thought, even those it might be a new wrapping..... but it certainly better and improved.

Just reading this from Wired. A all-podcast radio station to launch in San Francisco soon.

I saw recently more and more and more podcast going on the net, don't even mention those from the podcasting pioneers. It's not just the bloggers going verbal these days, many on-line/on-air radio outlets also slowly experimenting with this new media.

I am surprice to see podcasting, as a media/distribution channel, is gaining popularity. I thought at first, who want to talk to a recorder and put the tracks on the net, anyway. But I was wrong... there are many of them. I guess there's nothing earth shattering here, as people already saying this for months. But it's interesting to see it grow so rapidly, as it only starts around Oct last year. This thing for sure grows a horn and gain traction.
