Many people at work received those "won a trip to Florida, call to claim prize" calls. The call display number is fake and not in service.

It get me thinking where this number come from? It can be datafill from the marketer's system, I guess. But I was thinking, gee, what if this is a zombie machine on the Intenet, calling via some VoIP gateway (ie SkypeOut)?

I don't know if this is actually cost effectively to do this. But for sure with a army of zombie machines, a marketer can send out mass phone calls, just like the spammer doing today. Even worse, they are using other's resource (ie credit to call landline) to do so. What a scumbag!
